2013 - Year in Review

1/1/2014

So, 2013, what's up with that? Well, it was the start of Creepy Doll Studios, joy!

Bath Salts was released on August 28th and was offered as a Pay What You Want title on DriveThruRPG.

September 9th, 1%er - The Outlaw Motorcycle Game hit the storefront to coincide with the new season of Sons of Anarchy.

October was a bit crazy and I was running like gangbusters with a mad Halloween rush. I launched both One Foot in the Grave and Dude, Run! both of which have been getting rave reviews.

And that's when I hit the wall. Good ole reality, spoiler of all good things, bought me to a grinding halt. Okay, so I can't blame reality all that much, though it didn't help. So what happened?

Well, Dead Teenager RPG v4.2 was slated to go and pretty much ready, when I got to digging and wanted more out of it. I knew it was in there, it just needed to be elaborated on. So, I added...and added. Now v5.0 was basically done, but it hadn't been tested. So I ended October without the 3rd title, and got things together for playtesting.

Then on to Those Revolting Goblins. It's a game I really wanted to play as I see it work in my mind. And it got there...at some 50+ pages. It felt too large for what I was shooting for. So I reworked it and have a version out to a bunch of folks that's 3 1-page sheets. Cramming 50+ pages into 3 is no easy task. Still waiting on feedback and we'll see where it's at.

Working on these two has really taken from my time getting things to print, but it will happen. I guess I'm understanding why there's so few solo self-publishing companies out there. Especially when it's not a full time job.

In the end though, it really comes down to the desire to make a better product for you all.

It may seem small to many of you, but I still have yet to really get with the marketing myself deal. The lack of consistent releases did not help my numbers in the end. But I'm learning as I go and plan to make some changes to that. Resolutions and all that.

Oh and I did get to add a book to a charity bundle this year, as well as submit two books as prizes for a Festival/Contest. That's all good stuff.

I took time out to write two hacks for Josh Jordan's Doll RPG, both of which were given out free. And this is the second year I added content to NUELOW's ROLF! Christmas Special.  That will probably turn into an annual thing, so long as they can tolerate me.

2014...

I'm going to keep plugging away at the works in progress. I will get Those Revolting Goblins and Dead Teenager RPG out as soon as possible. Then I want to get everything together for Print on Demand.

Then I have another edition of Bath Salts, Chop Socky, Critical Mass, High Noon, and Single Wide Shenanigans coming out. The good news is 3 out of 5 are completely written and one has art done too, that will save a ton of hassle. I'm hoping to slap Last Laugh in there too, but it's priority is low.

Oh, and there's a strong possibility of publishing another first timer's game, should we be able get everything agreed upon.

2014 is 12 full months to work on things, nearly triple the amount of time I had last year. Happy New Year, and thanks for your support!
